wine for parents of toddlers

Wine tasting notes always sound so sophisticated: “hints of blackberry,” “notes of oak,” “a smooth finish.” But moms know the real art of pairing: finding the perfect glass of wine for the tantrum currently happening in your living room.

Because if you can’t laugh (and sip), you’ll cry right along with your toddler.

The Grocery Store Meltdown

Wine Pairing: Sauvignon Blanc
Bright, crisp, and zippy — the only thing refreshing enough after your toddler went limp-noodle in aisle 7 because you wouldn’t let them lick the shopping cart handle.

The Bedtime Battle

Wine Pairing: Cabernet Sauvignon
Bold, strong, and stubborn — just like your kid who suddenly “needs” water, another story, and to discuss the meaning of life at 9:45 p.m.

The “Wrong Color Cup” Tragedy

Wine Pairing: Rosé
Light, easy, and pink — to soothe your nerves after a twenty-minute meltdown about juice being in the blue cup instead of the red one. Cheers to surviving the drama in style.

The Sibling Smackdown

Wine Pairing: Merlot
Smooth and calming — exactly what you need when both kids are crying, nobody remembers who started it, and you’re suddenly questioning why you didn’t just get a cat.

The Public Tantrum (aka Olympic-Level Embarrassment)

Wine Pairing: Sparkling Wine
Effervescent bubbles that scream: “I made it home alive and no one called security.” Honestly, you deserve a whole bottle for this one.

Clara Harper’s Take

Toddler tantrums are inevitable, but they don’t have to break you. Sometimes, the only way to survive is to laugh at the chaos, pour yourself a glass, and remind yourself that this too shall pass (probably in 18 years).

The Bottom Line

Toddler tantrums are loud, messy, and relentless. But with the right wine pairing — and a sense of humor — you can survive even the worst meltdowns with your sanity (mostly) intact.

That’s why I created the Mom Interrupted workbook — a parody therapy journal for moms who need laughter, sarcasm, and permission to pour a glass at the end of the day.

And for your kids? My My Inner Monster picture book series turns their big feelings into relatable monsters they can learn to manage — so maybe tantrums won’t always require a rosé chaser.
