Big feelings don’t just belong to adults — kids carry them too. And while anger, anxiety, and shame often get the spotlight, sadness is one of the trickiest emotions for children to understand.
That’s why I’m so excited to announce my upcoming picture book: Sadness Is My Monster — the newest addition to the My Inner Monster series.
What’s the Book About?
In Sadness Is My Monster, kids meet Anayah, a little girl who feels weighed down by a gloomy monster after losing something important to her. Sometimes the monster hides in the shadows, sometimes it follows her everywhere, and sometimes it feels too heavy to carry.
Through gentle storytelling and whimsical illustrations, kids learn that sadness isn’t something to fear or ignore — it’s a monster you can name, understand, and even comfort.
Why Sadness Matters
Parents often struggle to explain sadness in ways that feel safe for kids. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a beloved pet, a move to a new school, or just those “blue days,” sadness can feel overwhelming.
This story helps children:
- Recognize sadness as a normal, shared feeling
- Build vocabulary to talk about emotions
- Understand that sadness doesn’t last forever
- See that even the heaviest “inner monsters” can be managed with love and support
Part of the My Inner Monster Series
Sadness Is My Monster joins my other titles designed to help kids navigate big emotions:
- Anger Is My Monster — teaching kids to manage frustration
- Shame Is My Monster — helping kids understand embarrassment and self-doubt
- Anxiety Is My Monster — helping kids manage fear and anxiety
These books are perfect for parents, teachers, and therapists who want to give kids language for emotions in a playful, approachable way.
Clara Harper’s Take
When I started writing the My Inner Monster series, my goal was simple: to make emotional learning easier for kids and parents. Sadness is one of those feelings that can make kids feel invisible — and this book is here to remind them they are seen, loved, and not alone.
When Can You Get It?
Sadness Is My Monster will be available soon on Amazon in hardcover, paperback, and Kindle in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for the official release date and pre-order information!
